Dome Security Cameras Can Help Provide Cleaner Images

Installing a security camera is only part of the security equation as maintaining them in clean working condition is extremely important. One way to insure the camera and lens stays free of dirt and grime is to use a dome security camera in environments that are not usually technology friendly. Every home and business will often find a thin layer of dust on everything between the floor and ceiling and when the air conditioner or heater fans kick on, the dust can be distributed throughout the building.

While the outside of the dome may become covered with dust requiring an occasional cleaning, the lens of the camera will remain cleaner and spot free making images from a dome security camera easier to distinguish. There are also different types of dome security cameras available and which ones used are up to the individual as well as the area under surveillance.

Walking into many retail outlets, especially in large companies, visitors may see a dome security camera without realizing what they are. An older style dome security camera would be between 10 and 15-inches round, made of black plastic through which a camera could capture the images. Today, the domes have been shrunk to about three or four inches in diameter, just big enough for a small camera to hide behind.

Domes Can Serve Two Functions

Some use a dome security camera housed in a mirrored dome that enables someone to view what is happening in surrounding areas as well as hiding a camera inside. They are typically used for viewing in adjacent aisles where the view is blocked by other structures. They can also be installed without the camera being connected to provide deterrence to crime in many locations.

Another purpose for using a dome security camera is to enable the user to install domes without cameras to throw off would-be thieves as they cannot tell which are empty domes and which contain a surveillance camera. However, even in dummy domes, the outer surface needs to be kept clean to let people know the facility is serious about their efforts to combat crime.

A dome security camera can be installed in a variety of structures and are not limited to ceiling installations. They can be attached to a wall inside and if properly weatherproof can be used outdoors as well. When choosing a dome security camera the type of dome is equally important as the type of camera used inside.
